Logo development for the ACCS. The Alabama Community College System consists of 21 comprehensive community colleges and four technical colleges; Marion Military Institute, one of five junior military colleges in the nation; Athens State University, the system's only upper-division institution offering baccalaureate degrees; and extensive workforce development initiatives, including AIDT and the Alabama Technology Network. Approximately 300,000 people are served annually by all of the entities of the system, including AIDT, ATN, workforce development, and adult education. Of those served, approximately 100,000 are enrolled in credit courses.

Cashmax is a smaller payday/title lending chain with 19 locations throughout Alabama. Unlike many similar models that focus on one or two specific services, Cashmax does it all - from pawn and gold buying to larger title loans. This project was from scratch in terms of branding- no marketing had been done other than a small referral effort and the business had done well organically. Being a friendlier, more personable, hyper-local business, we used this to separated Cashmax from the pack. Comfortable, reasonable and friendly - no screaming money parties or bad spokesperson car dealer reads. Cashmax wanted to draw in the passive user or new user that may be overwhelmed by others brands marketing. See more about Cashmax at the website, gocashmax.com. Addtional credit to Matt Lane Harris AD (who really got this project going in the right direction)

Brand development and packaging designs done for Buffalo Rock (Pepsi Bottling). Buffalo Rock was launching a new Pepper-like beverage. Project included naming and brand work which would led to packaging. After trying several design styles, narrowed the focus of the design to a layered historic look. Color palette was built to be recognizable as a pepper-like flavored soda. If you get a chance, you really should try it. I am a die-hard Dr.Pepper drinker and I love Dr.Wham, its not as heavy but still has a great pepper flavor. Since its launch, Dr. Wham has developed a strong cult following, my favorite fan commercial is here.

Poster designed for Cage The Elephant show at the KASBAH in Coventry, United Kingdom. Design was inspired by the first Civil Wars poster I completed earlier this year. The motif is a visual tribute to the eclectic layered sound of the band combined with a Kasbah (Moroccan) street market/antique shop. The band’s music seems to draw from a wide range of influences, so this felt appropriate to the design.

From the bands website:
When Cage the Elephant released their self-titled debut in 2009, they were heralded as saviors of slacker funk-punk thanks to their hit “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked.” The title turned out to be more prescient than they’d bargained for: the band has been battling adversity of many stripes. But the struggles never pushed singer Matt Shultz, guitarist Brad Shultz, bassist Daniel Tichenor, guitarist Lincoln Parish, and drummer Jared Champion off track ” they only strengthened the group’s bond and fueled the revved-up roar of its new album, Thank You Happy Birthday, released January 11, 2011. Debuting at #2 on the Billboard 200 Chart, Cage The Elephant launched the new year with a ferocious kick of gut-grabbing rock & roll.

Brand campaign for Colonial Brookwood Village (Birmingham). Hand-crafted, stop-frame animation lends a unique/eclectic feel to the campaign as well as a textural softness. It has a calmness wrapped in fantasy and pleasantry, unlike any mall I know. When Shannon brought up the idea, it just felt perfect to me, so right for Brookwood (in fact we even called the star “Brook Wood”. It was quite an undertaking building all the cut-paper elements and took many long nights. I’m very happy with the way these turned out. But, I do need a break from scissors, exacto knives and paper for a while. Additional credits: Shannon Harris - AD (for the great outfit designs, the cool idea and for bringing Brook to life), Brian Curtain - Video Editor/Music, Anna Yeager - Intern Extraordinaire.

Brand development and packaging designs done for Buffalo Rock (Pepsi Bottling). Buffalo Rock was launching a new line of beverages under the Sunfresh umbrella, the first would be lemonade (later to expand into strawberry, blue raspberry and peach). I narrowed the focus of the designs to a layered historic look, pulling design vernacular from older Buffalo Rock products and signage, like their original ginger ale (Matt Harris - redesign) and Dr. Wham which I had recently finished branding and packaging for. The Buffalo Rock family of brands needed to live together, but also live as separate own-able brands.

The Press-Register (formerly Mobile Press-Register) serves as the voice of the Mobile and Baldwin County areas of Alabama. The region gained National attention during the BP oil spill tragedy that proved to be one of the worst industrial accidents in history. The gulf is still in a state of recovery and is showing signs of returning to normalcy. The following re-branding work was part of an effort to bring all of the people of the region together through a common point of contact. It serves as a reminder of where they have been and how far they have come. The Press-Register is the common connection; serving as a voice of positive change for the future. Thanks to Mark Ervin for the great copy.

University of Montevallo is a unique school, reminiscent of the classical New England style schools, free-thinking, free-spirited and academically exceptional. Located in the geographic center of Alabama, the university's campus features white-columned brick buildings, redbrick streets, stately trees, and expansive lawns. The grounds were designed by the Olmsted Brothers, who also created New York's Central Park and the Biltmore House. The campus is designated as a National Historic District, and 28 campus structures or sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As part of an effort to rebrand the consumer facing image of the school, we started with the logo - using the schools history, learning principles and falcon mascot as a starting point.

Designed for the band Spoon.. I started with many ideas that involved spoons, before their management told me the no utensil rule. In any case, it was a fun project for a band I love. Spoon fun fact: The name Spoon was chosen to honor the 1970s German avant-garde band Can, whose hit song "Spoon" was the theme song to the movie Das Messer.
